While the placebo effect has been discussed in the medical world for years, the use of it during actual surgical treatment has surprisingly positive results. On Friday, August 16, at the Limelight Hotel in downtown Aspen, Dr. Osterman enlightened the crowd with a lecture on how much a patient can benefit from thinking a procedure was successful just based off of being told that it was. The topic was highly engaging and thought-provoking for those who attended. Many thanks to Dr. Osterman for taking us through the history of the placebo effect and its uses today.
Catch up with past Grand Rounds lectures here and check back for information on future talks! Our next event will be on Friday, September 27, at the Limelight Hotel in Aspen with Dr. Peter Stern discussing Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery.
