Dr. Baratz’s lecture on “Distal Radius Fractures & Finding Balance in Your Practice” stimulated the audience with his extensive knowledge of hand and wrist fracture surgeries, as well as showing the different ways to find a balance between work and play.
As an accomplished orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and wrist surgery, it was an honor to host Dr. Mark Baratz for our OrthoAspen Summer 2018 Grand Rounds Lecture Series to educate our Aspen Valley Hospital orthopedic staff, local specialists and visiting specialists. Dr. Baratz guided attendees through a few different hand and wrist surgical scenarios, including those where patients’ quality of life was significantly improved through the treatment they received. He transitioned his lecture to themes of finding balance in your practice—and shared how he accomplishes this in his own life and practice. Music was a key component, and our audience was treated to a live performance of blues harmonica by Dr. Baratz himself! Definitely a first for Grand Rounds! Having outlets outside of one’s practice can improve mood, activate ‘pleasure zones’ in your brain and make having a stressful profession in medicine more manageable.
The Grand Rounds lecture series will continue in winter of 2019, with dates and Aspen location TBD. Please visit our Grand Rounds page here to stay in the know on our upcoming lectures.
