Originally from the east coast, Dr. Eleanor (Leelee) von Stade moved to Santa Fe, N.M., and eventually to Vail Colo. There, Dr. von Stade caught the ski bug and made plans to practice medicine in a mountain town.

After graduating with her MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, she completed her residency at Southwestern Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, where she gained trauma training, later proving an important part of practicing in a world-renowned skiing community.

Following her residency, Dr. von Stade found her way back to the mountains and completed a fellowship with Aspen Sports Medicine Foundation before heading back to Santa Fe. Not long thereafter, she jumped on the opportunity to come back to Aspen, and now currently practices with OrthoAspen. Dr. von Stade appreciates treating the high-level recreational athlete that Aspen attracts, and enjoys finding ways to get patients back to their activities. She specializes in trauma care and partial and total knee replacements using the Mako Total System.

“Following a ski accident, I received care in your ER for a fractured clavicle (five places) and other injuries. I want to thank everyone involved for the very high level of care and the friendly and professional attitudes of all personnel who assisted me. Dr. Leelee von Stade was my surgeon. Her care and associated advice were outstanding. If I decide to break any more bones, I hope I’m near your facility when I do so!”
