Born and raised in Stockton, Calif., Dr. Khan-Farooqi planned a life of service either in politics or healthcare. He received his BS degree with honors from Stanford University, where he majored in biological sciences and minored in political science. Dr. Khan-Farooqi worked in a cancer biology research laboratory at Stanford for two years after graduation. His project focused on the role of stem cells and growth factors in protecting the body’s normal tissues from injury during cancer treatment.
Dr. Khan-Farooqi attended Stanford Medical School, graduating with an MD in 2000, and found his calling in orthopedic surgery, particularly in the care of fractures and their aftereffects. He was fortunate to receive residency training in Seattle at the University of Washington, Harborview Medical Center, and affiliated hospitals where he worked with giants in the fields of trauma and foot/ankle surgery. Dr. Khan-Farooqi continued his foot and ankle subspecialty training with a focus on the care of athletes at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, N.C.
He met his wife, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Thea Wojtkowski, as a fellow undergrad at Stanford. They have four children whom they hope to raise to appreciate a life of curiosity, passion and service to community.
Dr. Khan-Farooqi’s style of practice involves personalized care, taking the time to listen with empathy and to understand and then explain the assessment thoroughly so doctor and patient can jointly pursue healing on the patient’s terms.
Dr. Khan-Farooqi feels fortunate to have the opportunity to live, work and raise his children in beautiful Aspen, Colo.
“What a wonderful hospital! I am beyond happy with the care I received as a patient. I gladly drove 3.5 hours to have my surgery done at Aspen Valley Hospital, and would do it again if needed. The facility was very clean, the staff was extremely informative and helpful, and the food was delicious! I have (unfortunately) been in many hospitals, in many states, and I must say this was my best experience. Dr. Khan-Farooqi is an excellent physician, and will only be a blessing to the hospital and its patients. The nursing staff was top notch. Amazing care by amazing people. I can’t sing the praises of Aspen Valley Hospital enough.”
